A pina colada slush brings all the fun of a tropical vacation without needing a passport. And unlike many frozen drink recipes, this recipe doesn’t even require a blender. Made with pina colada mix, pineapple juice and fizzy lemon-lime soda, the slushie is sweet, tart and ultimately refreshing. Prep it ahead of time, then scoop and sip it all summer long.

Whether you’re looking for mocktail recipes for a family-friendly party or something you can spike with rum, this frozen pina colada slush recipe is the ultimate summer refresher.

Pina Colada Slush Ingredients

  • Unsweetened pineapple juice
  • Water
  • Frozen nonalcoholic pina colada mix (or regular pina colada mix)
  • Lime juice
  • Crystal Light lemonade drink mix
  • Lemon-lime soda, chilled

Directions

Step 1: Mix the pina colada

In a large bowl, combine the pineapple juice, water, pina colada mix, lime juice and lemonade mix. Stir until the drink mix is completely dissolved.

Step 2: Freeze the pina colada

Pour the mixture into a 2-quart freezer container, and freeze for at least six hours or overnight.

Step 3: Add the soda

About 45 minutes before serving, remove the container from the freezer to soften slightly. For each serving, combine 1/2 cup slush mixture with 1/2 cup lemon-lime soda.

Editor’s Tip: Wait to mix the slushie base with soda until just before serving to keep the bubbles fresh and fizzy.

How to Store Pina Colada Slush

A pina colada slush drink recipe is a perfect make-ahead beverage because you can store the slushie base in a freezer-safe container for up to one month. It freezes solid, so you’ll want to let it sit on the counter to soften before scooping, then stir in the soda. For easy entertaining, you can also portion the base into individual containers before freezing.

How can I customize the pina colada slushie recipe with different flavors?

You can easily customize pina colada slush by adding mango or peach nectar, strawberry puree or passionfruit juice. When you add the soda, stir in the desired flavor, decreasing the amount of soda by the same amount. For alcohol-based variations, you could add coconut rum or amaretto for a nutty, dessert-like finish.

How can I make a boozy pina colada slushie recipe?

To spike your pina colada slush recipe, add a shot of light or dark rum to each glass when mixing in the soda. Light rum keeps things tropical, while dark rum adds depth. Avoid spiced rum—it tends to overpower the delicate tropical flavors.

Do I have to use Crystal Light to make pina colada slush?

We use Crystal Light lemonade drink mix in our pina colada slush recipe, but you can swap in any sugar-free lemonade mix. Alternatively, frozen lemonade concentrate also works, but you may have to adjust the amount to taste.

For a special treat on a steamy day, try this pina colada slush. I first had it when I was pregnant. It really hit the spot that summer—and ever since! I’m asked to bring it to family gatherings all year long, so I always keep a batch or two in my freezer…just to be prepared. —Alisa Allred, Vernal, Utah'
