Jonathan Bailey Goes Everywhere with This One Breakfast Dish

Jonathan Bailey is having quite the moment. He made a big impression on viewers with his passionate portrayal of Anthony Bridgerton on Netflix’s smash hit, Bridgerton. Last year, he was a perfect Fiyero in Wicked and will be reprising that role for Wicked: For Good this fall. And, of course, he is starring alongside Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali in Jurassic World: Rebirth.
With so many premieres, press events and talk show appearances, I’m sure that everything feels like a whirlwind for him right now. Since I’m obsessed with the daily routines of the very busy and famous, I wanted to see if I could find out what he eats for breakfast.
Would he join the ranks of the oatmeal lovers, like Kate Middleton and Willie Nelson? Or would he be more of a smoothie person, like Reese Witherspoon or Margot Robbie? Turns out, it’s a secret third option.
What does Jonathan Bailey eat for breakfast every day?
In a video for GQ, Jonathan elaborated on his preferred meal: muesli. “Wherever I go, I have a massive stash of muesli,” he says. “My dad used to take muesli wherever he went as well. So it’s some sort of genetic predisposition.”
Muesli was invented by a Swiss doctor in the early 20th century as a breakfast option. It remains a popular breakfast staple in Europe to this day. When I studied abroad in France, my host family always had muesli in a big jar on the kitchen counter. The key ingredient is typically rolled oats, and it can be customized with various nuts, dried fruit and seeds. The one that Jonathan is partial to has desiccated coconut.
Muesli is raw, not baked, which is the key difference between muesli and granola. You can mix it with yogurt and fresh fruit like you might with granola, or eat it with milk like cereal. “I’ll take it with an almond milk or an oat milk, but basically I’m not really fussy about the milk part. Or the bowl, or the spoon,” Jonathan says. “But the muesli I’m hyper fussy about.”
So, whether you want to switch up your morning oatmeal routine or just want to give something new a try, muesli is calling! And it’s Jonathan Bailey-approved. I can’t think of a better way to start the day.
