Few things are more important to me than coffee. I started drinking coffee in high school and have never looked back. Over the years, my tastes and preferences have varied. I’ll spend six months taking my coffee black, then decide I want to make fancy lattes with homemade cold foam and flavored syrups.

One thing that I’ve always been a little frustrated by, though, is the quality of ready-to-drink coffee beverages. Usually they’re too sweet or too bitter. I think that a lot of canned coffee drinks are fine, but I’ve never tried one that impressed me. That is, until I sampled the Jolene White oat milk latte.

What is Jolene coffee?

I think it’s important to note that no one is more skeptical of both canned coffees and celebrity brands than I am. I will try any celebrity product out of sheer curiosity, but they often leave me confused. So when I heard that Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis had entered the beverage market, my initial thought was … Huh.

Anthony Kiedis and his buddy, actor Shane Powers, decided to launch their own coffee brand as a way to honor the weekly coffee dates they had been keeping with each other for more than 20 years. And, thus, Jolene was born. There are exactly two products available: Jolene Black (a black cold brew) and Jolene White (an oat milk latte).

I am currently in the oat milk latte era of my coffee consumption, so I was most interested in giving the Jolene White a try. And much to my delight, it exceeded expectations.

What does Jolene coffee taste like?

The Jolene White was delicious and refreshing. It tasted exactly like an iced oat milk latte. There was a strong coffee flavor paired with the slightly nutty oat milk and a tiny hint of sweetness. After my first sip, I waited for the weird canned coffee aftertaste to hit. You know the one: metallic or chalky or otherwise very weird and artificial. But I got none of that with Jolene! I was immediately impressed.

As I kept sipping, I was in disbelief at how good it tasted. I’ve choked down my share of subpar canned coffees over the years just because I needed an easy caffeine boost. This was not the case, and I am so happy to have finally found a product that mimics the flavors of a freshly brewed iced latte.

I love that Jolene comes in an 8-ounce can, because anything more just feels like too much coffee. If you’re in the market for a reliably good afternoon pick-me-up that doesn’t sacrifice on quality, then Jolene should be on your radar. It’s great straight out of the can, over ice or with your favorite Red Hot Chili Peppers song.
