Connor McDavid Eats the Same Thing Before Every Game

If you can feel that competitive energy in the air, it’s because the Stanley Cup is up for grabs. The teams that are competing in this year’s Stanley Cup are the Edmonton Oilers and the Florida Panthers.
As of writing this story, the Panthers lead the series 3-2, so it’s a real race to the finish line to see if the Oilers can come out on top. And a lot of that might depend on Connor McDavid, one of the best players in the entire league. He’s captain for the Oilers and scored his first goal of the series in Game 5.
It’s a lot of pressure to put on one player, but if anyone is up to the challenge, it’s Connor McDavid. I am always fascinated by the pre-show and pre-game rituals of musicians and athletes, so I decided to look into how Connor fuels up before a big game.
What does Connor McDavid eat before hockey games?
If you’re about to engage in the level of physical activity that hockey requires, you’re probably going to want something hearty without being too filling. It’s not the time for a heavy multi-course menu—unless you want to take a nap at halftime!
According to Sports Illustrated, Connor McDavid keeps it simple. “I’m a pretty boring person. I usually eat the same things before every game—chicken and rice,” he said. “It’s pretty light and makes you feel good. I just stick to what I know.”
He might call it boring, but I call it classic. Chicken and rice sounds simple, but it’s a reliable meal that can also be spiced or flavored any way that you want. And in case any pre-game nerves start to sink in, it’s a mild combination that won’t upset your stomach. As I write this, I’m realizing that his favorite pre-game meal is basically what I feed my dog when she’s not feeling well. If the Oilers need a mascot, Tilly is available!
